Swift Run is a Church on a Mission. Follow the links above for information on several mission projects in which our Maude Parott Women's Missionary Union participate. Swift Run aids in the funding of missionaries, both at home and abroad. Along with those listed above Swift Run projects have also included a baby shower for the Charlottesville Pregnancy Center, snack packs for new and returning students of the University of Virginia, the cookie caper for our armed forces, help for migrant workers, and prison ministries. We have also collected teddy bears for the Ronald McDonald House in Charlottesville. Most recently, a
special offering of over $500 was collected for the victims of Hurricane
Katrina. Congratulations to Peggy Moyers, the GA's and the congreation. The GA's reached their goal of 50 hygiene kits for the Fluvanna Women's Prison for their 'Christmas in August' project. During the month of November, WMU is collecting new teddy bears for the Ronald McDonald House in Charlottesville. Dinner and the bears will be delivered to the Ronald McDonald House on December 10, 2005. |

Operation Christmas ChildThe ladies of the Swift Run Maude Parrot Women's Missionary Group begin wrapping shoeboxes in August in preparation for the "Operation Christmas Child" project. This special project is sponsored through Samaritans Purse with Reverend Franklin Graham. These boxes go around the world and are delivered throughout the year. Shoeboxes are prepared for infants to children who are 14 years of age. They are filled with personal hygiene items, books, toys, arts supplies, candy, and many other small items that will fit in a shoebox. The boxes are sometimes the only present these children receive for Christmas. Please bring your shoeboxes to the 11:00 Church on November 20, 2005. Additional information may be found on the Samaritan's Purse website at: samartainspurse.org |

This project provides an Easter basket for the children of the inmates of the facility. The baskets are delivered to the homes of the children and what a joy it brings to see the happy faces. Seniors at ChristmasIn December, the Greene Senior Center, Stanardsville Baptist Church and Swift Run play Santa to 26 low income senior citizens of the area. Each senior has been asked to prepare a Christmas "wish list." These list often include the basic necessities that we take for granted. Our members distribute the names and go shopping. The presents are distributed near the holidays at the Stanardsville Food Pantry along with a bag of groceries.

Food Pantry
Throughout the year donations of various food and cleaning supplies are collected and donated to the Stanardsville Food Pantry. During the third week of each month the Stanardsville Food Pantry provides groceries and supplies to the less fortunate in the Greene county community. This is a wonderful outreach to people in Greene. |

Valentines for the VeteransA special project at Swift Run is "Valentines for the Veterans". The children meet to make valentines and bake cakes for the veterans of our church. Usually 25 cakes are baked and decorated with hearts and candy. The cakes are given to the members of Swift Run who have served our country in the military forces. The children really enjoy this project, especially eating the left over icing, as they learn of the dedication that these men and women have shown. The homemade valentines are also sent to the Richmond and Roanoke Veteran's Hospitals where they are placed on dinner trays at mealtime to brighten their day and let the veterans know we love them. For similar projects sponsored by the Central Virginia Baptist Association in Charlottesville see the website of the : Central Virginia Baptist Association |
